In the culinary and restaurant world is very difficult to succeed. It’s even more difficult to combine art, tradition, good service and excellent food.

Teddy Bernal can brag about succeeding. For more than 30 years Frank & Lupe’s Restaurants have been satisfying customers in New Mexico and Arizona, with a winning formula that combines traditional food, experience and good service.

Teddy was born in Los Angeles, California and then the family moved to Socorro, New Mexico when he was 5 years old. His parents, Frank and Lupe Bernal, decided to start the restaurant named after them. That’s when Teddy’s fascination for the culinary world started.

To help his parents and the family business, Teddy came to Scottsdale, Arizona, to study in one of the most prestigious institutions in the Country, Le Cordon Bleu program at the Scottsdale Culinary Institute.

After he graduated, Teddy saw the opportunity of opening a restaurant in Scottsdale due to the lack of Mexican-style restaurants in the area.

“Scottsdale was a small place with just a few restaurants and businesses. So the success of a restaurant that combined the traditional Mexican and New Mexican cuisines was almost guaranteed,” said Bernal.

In July of 1996 the dream came true, and Frank and Lupe’s Restaurant located in the heart of the artistic district in downtown Scottsdale opened it’s doors and started satisfying both local customers and tourists alike.
